The other day I came across this:
To the untrained eye it looks like it would endow the wearer with instant Syrian revolutionary credibility. But look again. Spot anything amiss?
That flag emblazoned on the T-shirt is the Syrian Ba’athist flag, which is much despised by members of the opposition. They’ve adopted the old, pre Ba’athist flag of Syria: green, white and black, with three red stars.
I can’t work out whether the people who are manufacturing and selling these are just ill informed and trying to cash in on a conflict they know little about, or are agents of Assad trying to undermine the revolution with customised Fruit of the Loom T-shirts.
Or maybe, just maybe, it’s intended as a cunning way to show that you’re sitting on the fence on the whole Syria issue – in which case it would make a perfect gift for any number of Western politicians.
